Jesse Smith is an artist that blends contemporary bluegrass sounds with smooth, soaring vocals to please even the most critical listener. Her self titled debut incorporates intuitive remakes of several bluegrass classics by artists like Bill Monroe and Flatt and Scruggs, two beautiful gospel standards, and three original songs that demonstrate promising depth as a fine writer.
Being born into a family that loves all aspects of music, Jesse was introduced to it at an early age. Listening to Southern Gospel quartets like The Kingsmen, The Singing Americans, and Gold City, she learned the true beauty of tight harmonies and powerful singing. As she grew older, singers like Patsy Cline and Linda Ronstadt influenced her style even more by illustrating the value of a voice that encompassed a full, commanding sound. It is no surprise that her own sound follows that of her early influences in strength and in freedom.
The pure, acoustic, bluegrass sound is a precise fit for Jesse’s style because it matches the sincere passion she delivers in song. Her unyielding drive to produce a truely unique sound gains the respect of many listeners. She is adept at finding a good balance between using her musical creativity and fulfilling expectations in the development of her songs.
In addition to her solo performances, Jesse can also be heard as part of the inspiring Bluegrass Gospel group, Free Indeed. Free Indeed has been performing since 2002 and can be heard in churches and at bluegrass festivals all over the Southeast.
